Pricing is based upon the deadline and difficulty of each job.

Scanning:

For unedited image files 10 cents a page

For lightly-edited image files 40 cents a page
This includes auto-straightening and cleanup of the images to remove obvious smudges or imperfections that appear on the original.

OCR:

Standard jobs 60 cents per 1000 characters (about $240 for a 400,000-character book)

Coding/Tagging no additional charge, except for difficult coding jobs

Difficult or rush (less than 1 week) jobs 75 cents per 1000 characters

OCR jobs with difficult coding 75 cents per 1000 characters

Coding/Tagging:

Standard jobs 30 cents per 1000 characters

Difficult jobs 60 cents per 1000 characters

Input of Copyedits:

Standard jobs 60 cents per 1000 characters

Heavily-edited or rush jobs 75 cents per 1000 characters

Americanization:

5 cents per 1000 characters when in addition to any other service

Otherwise the price is negotiable based on the extent of Americanization needed.

Proofreading:

$16 an hour

Difficulties that Affect Pricing

When OCRing a manuscript it is important that it be a clean, crisp copy so that the text is recognized correctly. If the quality of the original is speckled or faded, it is harder for the program to recognize the text. This means that our proofreaders will need to spend more time correcting errors that result from a poor copy.

When coding/tagging, sometimes books contain an enormous number of elements. Cookbooks are a good example.

When inputting edits, if the manuscript is heavily-edited it will take longer to input the edits and for the proofreader to check them.
